Phytoremediation driven energy crops production on heavy metal degraded areas as local energy carrier – Phyto2Energy is a project implemented under the EU FP7 Maria Curie-Skłodowska Industry Academia Partnerships and Pathways scheme.

The overall goal of the Phyto2Energy project: is to strengthen the cooperation between industry and academia to make advancement in knowledge and arrive to promising near to market innovations aiming at the following S&T objective: to develop and validate a novel approach to biomass production on heavy metal contaminated (HMC) sites, its environmentally safe utilisation for energy purposes in local small size scale with a simultaneous improvement of soil quality and functions of the sites by phytoremediation. This three-in-one S&T objective will be achieved by:

  • execution of a joint research programme with S&T goal as mentioned above;

  • intersector two-way secondments of staff representing different skills and areas of expertise to transfer state of the art knowledge and contribute to generation of new knowledge within the scope of the project topic,

  • complementing of the consortium potential with specialized expertise necessary to achieve the S&T project goal through recruitment of external experienced researchers,

  • effective building up the knowledge into an interdisciplinary approach including a business dimension through training activities improving mutual understanding of the different cultural settings and skills necessary to turn creative ideas to close to the market innovations;

  • establishing new and lasting intersectoral cooperation and strengthening the research the and business performance by outreach, promotion and dissemination activities addressed towards the consortium and externally.

The project is executed in a consortium of 6 partners from 3 countries: 3 organisations from commercial sector: ISPE (RO), Probiotics (PL) and VITA34 AG (DE) (industry) and 3 from non-commercial sector (academia and institutes): IETU (PL), HMGU (DE) and SUT (PL).
